Is it really worth it?

^See exactly the reason why I need to forget my social life and just focus on academics!

Academics can only take you so far though. Besides, grad school is where it’s at.

…idk… :/

You’re a sophomore, you have time.

Don’t plan out your entire plans in advance. Life is like a lab experiment; there’s always random uncertainty.

Depends on what you want to do.

Yeah true, however even with a lab experiment you have to have some kind of expected result you are working for…

Yeah I really don’t know for sure…I was thinking about biomedical engineering

Who said you had to?

Had to what?

High school is only 4 years.
College is only 4 years.
Life will go on no matter what you choose.

In my opinion, #2 because you have to get a good degree to work at a job for the rest of your life.

Or even better idea, do a little bit of #1 and #2. Work hard and party hard.

That’s what a force fed HS science lab says to you.

Real life, you don’t know what you’re gonna get. You have an observation and a hypothesis, but they might not pan out.

^ They have the right idea.

Well, i have nothing to say really. Do half and half like me. Half of my time is purely academic and the other half is sports/social events/hanging with the boys.

For me doing half of each isn’t that easy…I am not the smartest person in the bunch, but I can easily be if I focus only on academics.

How bout putting aside certain days for socializing, and certain days for partying. This is a typical, balanced weekend of mine:

Friday:
-afternoon: hang out with friends/sports practice
-night: study for a bit before going out
Saturday:
-morning: study
-afternoon: study/out to lunch/mall with friends
-night: PARTY
Sunday:
-all day: study

This way, you’re still hanging out, but also getting a lot more studying done. I don’t think anyone would have to study more than that…

^Yeah, I do something similar. I don’t really party though, but:

Friday: Hang out with friends. Do no work.
Saturday: Either hang out with friends during the day or at night. Work the other half of the day.
Sunday: Work the whole time.

That should be more than enough time to get your work done. And you can vary the schedule–when you have a lull in hw, socialize more. When it’s the week before finals, don’t go out.

During the week I don’t spend time exclusively socializing. But I have a lot of fun with my friends in ECs, and if you do a sport then you’re also spending time chilling with friends.

It’s definitely possible to achieve a balance.

am i the only person that doesnt go to parties or “hang out” with my friends alot…yet doesnt really care?

i have never been to a party during my hs career…

This is a false dichotomy. Academic success and a social life are possible. That’s what we’re trying to tell you.

and op it’s JOHNS hopkins…not john

I thought we agreed on your previous thread that it would be very, very difficult for you to get into these schools? I agree with the other posters, you can be social and still study.

^I knew someone would bring that up…anyway that just justifies my only two options:

Doing whatever it takes to get into.a school is lame and pathetic. It accomplishes very little and you still may not get in.
