Is it suicide taking Math II with no graphing calculator?

Hey, guys! I’m an international student from Brazil and I’ll be taking Math II in October. I’ve heard from a lot of people in my country who have taken the test and done well that it’s not that difficult, the problem really is timing. Most of them took it without a graphing calculator and did fine. But most of them are REALLY good at Math.

In contrast, I’ve seen in many websites and forums (here, for example) people stating that a graphing calculator is essential, and that in the US you’ve been using one since middle school (is that really true?). I’ve seen most of the material covered on the test in school, and here we learn how to do everything with no calculator whatsoever. Not only that, but we’re strongly discouraged even to use a “four function” one because our university entrance exams don’t allow it.

I’m really worried about the calculator issue, though. I’m pretty sure I could do most thing by hand, but is there enough time? How essential is it really? I can’t afford one, none of my teachers even have it. Will I need to learn basic calculus (limits, derivative, etc) to do any problems without a graphing one? I’ll probably use a scientific one so as to not be in a big disadvantage.

Those of you who have taken the test or are preparing for it, what do you think? I’m aiming for an 800 (who isn’t?), but I’d be happy with a 750 at least. Thanks!
