I’m looking at dorms at UT Austin and my roommate and I really like San Jacinto Hall. I’m an astronomy major so I’ll be spending a lot of time at the CNS (College of Natural Science) building, especially since I have all my basics done from dual and AP classes. Is it a huge hassle to walk that far? About how long does it take? Thanks!
It’s not far, you’ll be fine walking all over campus from San Jac. Don’t stress on that.
Per Google map it’s .4 miles, roughly 7-8 football fields. They say that’s a 9-10 min walk. (3 min bike). Everything is “uphill” from San Jac, but it’s all downhill to get back. It’s a beautiful, relatively new Dorm, that will make a great college experience for you and your roommate. Congrats and good luck.
That’s about how far I had to walk from my dorm (Scottish Rite) to the engineering building. I loved that walk. 
I wouldn’t not live where you want on campus regarding location to a building. Throughout your time at UT you will be walking ALL over the campus. Professors make you visit locations as part of curriculum, PCL, museums, etc. Everywhere is a a journey on the campus since it’s huge
Longhorn Freshman estimates that she walks about 4 miles a day from her off campus dorm to get to her classes that are all over. (She is in BME). Its great exercise and trying to find a place to live as a freshman near your classes is unnecessary and probably will not work. I hear San Jac is nice. Go for it.
When you say CNS building, do you actually mean Welch (WEL)? The distance from San Jac to Welch is about 10-15 minutes, which is not too bad. I think what’s bad is going from San Jac to RLM, but still you can just take the Forty Acres bus (640) which is located right next to San Jac and get off on Dean Keaton
It is not bad. I walked several times every day. I just need 2 or 3 pairs of shoes
Welch Hall is being closed for renovations for a year. So any classes in WEL will be relocated. Just an FYI.
My biology professor, Dr. Buskirk, said that only one wing (Speedway side) is closed for 2 years.
Walking on campus isn’t fun in general. Last semester I walked from Brazos garage to the tower… Not. Fun.
