Is it time to revise the prestigiosity ratings? The original!

How about religious values? Full aid at the other schools so money was not the deterrent.

I think RGIII gets all the points. Or perhaps, the producers of Kolaches.

The Baylor question has been answered. HYD still get the points because it’s the shock that people would turn down these schools for Baylor that further confirms their prestigiosity.

ETA: I went through Waco twice last week, and RG3 is everywhere.

Regarding SteveMa’s list…

Curtis and Juilliard are as specialized as the military academies. Lots of prestigiosity points but not wide appeal.

Berea and College of the Ozarks require work. To most high schoolers, working is something to put off for as long as possible-- thus a loss in prestigiosity points.

Bowdoin should probably be on the list somewhere.

I just don’t know what to do with Florida Memorial University. I have no idea why the admissions rate is so low.

Gosh! They made eight movies about Hogwarts. I think it deserves more than 1000mits.

And I haven’t found my D’s school in these ratings. I think that means one of two things: it’s a social construct and doesn’t really exist, or the hegemonic, patriarchal bias has removed it from consideration.

I think schools with celebrities that are frequently mentioned should definitely garner extra points, as well as footage in movies and mentions in The National Enquirer. Prestigiosity is not the se domain of CC after all.

I’m at a loss in factoring in attendance by a Kardashian. Gain it lose 100mits?

Exactly–one of the key signs of prestigiosity is what people on CC say when you are deciding between two schools–if a lot of people say the decision is obvious or a “no-brainer,” that suggests the favored school has prestigiosity.

And a corollary to that - if the decision is a “no-brainer” when the two schools cost the same, that’s one level of prestigiosity. I submit it’s an even higher level of prestigiosity when it’s still said to be a “no-brainer” when the “no-brainer” school requires full pay and the other school is a full ride. After all, it’s one thing to say Harvard > Vanderbilt when both are $60K a year. It’s another thing to say Harvard > Vanderbilt when it’s Harvard at $60K and a full ride at Vanderbilt.

MIT vs Harvard. Who ever heard of a MIT grad driving a cab?

Excerpt of conversation overheard between two increasingly irate fathers at a holiday party during EA/ED announcements time.

Does no cab driving grads give MIT extra points?

Would an elite school gain milliHarvards if it were to host a season of Survivor? A bunch of students are auto-admitted and each week one is voted off the campus. The last one standing gets to stay with tuition paid for by the show.

Winning this award should be an auto-admit, in the absence of disqualifying factors.

Might want to check out Holy Cross. Great alumni network and only 250 MilliHarvards from Boston.

Re: Post # 120…

THAT is hilarious…a new CC “classic” for sure

You have to have a driver’s license to drive a cab.

Kids at MIT don’t use mmMIT unit. They use Smoot. This is a standard unit approved by Cambridge-Boston government officials and the world.

You people are making me laugh so loud that people in the very prestigious section of the first class section on Delta are looking askance at me. I think I woke up the guy sitting next to me (but he’s kind of a jerk anyways, who knows where he graduated from)!

I was wondering when someone would bring up Smoots…

"Quote:
There was someone on CC last year who declined Harvard, Yale, Duke and went to Baylor.

Who gets points - the kid or Baylor? How many?
I think RGIII gets all the points. Or perhaps, the producers of Kolaches."

Xiggi, was that you in line at the Czech Stop Bakery?

There are lot’s of lists . . . they all get revised every year.

Busdriver,
Do you fly for Delta? Are you allowed to have your cellphone on or a connection to the internet in the cockpit? Is it safe to text and fly??

You mean a Kardashian went to COLLEGE?
