Is it too early to start studying for the SAT?

I have some free time over the summer, so I was considering studying for the SAT. I am going to be a Junior next year, but I won't take my first SAT until January or March.

Should I start working on sample problems and readings in the blue book, or should I simply keep my mind sharp through SAT Question of the Day and reading various books?

If it makes any difference, I will take the PSAT/NMSQT in October and I would love to get some form of recognition from that test.

Study for the PSAT!

Take an ACT and SAT practice exam. If you do significantly better on one, that’s the one you should focus on.

It is not too early. Indeed, it is the right time to start doing practices. You should put your focus on test prep over the summer. Indeed, you should have started working on vocab even much earlier. I would suggest to take your first SAT/ACT by January and finish the retake by April. You want to spare April for AP preparation and then for Subject tests afterward.

I only had to read the title. It is almost never too early to start studying. I can think of several people who got a nasty surprise come score realse time because they didn’t put in the effort.

Yeah absolutely getting a head-start on things is totally harmful, just like everything else in life. The best thing to do is to wait until the week before the exam and freak out while cramming every crappy prep book you can get. This way, the Cram Effect will come into play and help you get the desired 2690 without spending nearly as much time as others.

NO it’s not too early you dummy :stuck_out_tongue: As a matter of fact, the summer going into Junior year is probably the perfect time(if not a bit late since many start in sophomore year). START NOW!!! This way you can take the test in Nov and possibly see how your practice has helped and work on your weaknesses, making you ready for the Jan exam. Good Luck!!!

Start studying–one of my greatest regrets is that I did not start studying early enough. Studying for the SAT and PSAT kinda overlaps in a sense [the PSAT has no essay section and is shorter]… so I would thinking studying for the SAT will get you prepared for the PSAT.

I would start studying…that way you will be prepared for the PSAT too. The SAT isn’t the kind of test you can cram for—you need to slowly acquire test-skills.

Hey- it’s never too early. I’ve seen middle schoolers in libraries with SAT books. Not even kidding.

^ That’s right. My 12 year old is doing Maths and Comprehensions on SAT/ACT prep books.

Lets be honest, what do you think the answer is?

It’s never too early to study.
I’m doing it now and i’m only a rising sophomore

Nah, it’s definitely not too early. Most people I know started studying the summer before junior year. You can also prevent yourself from cramming this way.

Even if you’re not “SAT studying”.

Reading, whatever it is you’re reading, will be a great help for your SAT reading.

It’s not too early to study, but don’t get completely caught up in it! You still have a couple of months and it’s summer break, so try to achieve a good balance.

Lol, I’m not even in high school yet, but I’m already thinking about the SAT II’s.

The Summer before Junior is the most critical and efficient time to prepare for ACT/SAT.

You should start getting in the mode. You especially don’t want to cram for the SAT during May and June because its the most stressful part of the Junior year.
