I was thinking of joining a sorority next fall. The only problem is, I'll be a sophomore. I know most girls join sometime during freshman year, but I never really considered it until it was too late. I'm just wondering if it's common for people to join frats/sororities later on, or if it will just make me uncomfortable cause i'm older than all the other pledges. Any thoughts?

in the EXACT same boat here, except as a guy. was upset cause i considered it in the middle of spring rush, and now I have to go with all the younger pledges. i asked my friends who rushed if it was normal for a sophomore to rush, and both of them said that they had upperclassmen in the rush process with them. i would still feel much more comfortable as a freshman rushing though, you know?

Actually, most people I know who joined a sorority pledged in their Junior year, so you should be more than fine.

If you go to a school where greek life is huge (Like an SEC School such as Alabama) then it may be a problem. Otherwise it won’t. I pledged 2nd semester sophmore year.

I go to a school where Greek Life is pretty big (northern Big 12 school), and one of my friends joined a sorority second semester of sophomore year. Not a big deal. Not everyone who joins as a freshman stays all four years, not everyone who graduates as a member joined as a freshman. It goes both ways.

Awesome! that makes me feel so much better. :)
