Is it too late to start studying for the ACT, if I want to take it in October?

If I start in a week or two, will it be fine to take it in October for the 1st time? Thanks and I'll be a sophomore.

This is an extremely vague question.

1) What math have you completed, and do you find yourself good at math?

2) Are you good at reading comprehension?

3) Are you knowledgeable when it comes to grammar?

If you can give a decent “yes” to these three questions, than it is definitely possible to do good in that amount of time.

I’m a freshman, and I only studied the month before the June test and got a 27, so its definitely possible.

I have completed Accelerated Integrated Algebra I. It is basically Algebra and Geometry and I take Accelerated Integrated Geometry next year. I take Pre Cal junior and Cal or Stats my senior year. I got a 72 this year, but I had a very bad teacher and 12 kids failed the class out of the whole year. She gave us homework and then tried to teach us, but never did. I got a 96 in 8th grade and a C/B in 7th and a B in 6th. I even failed a standardized test in math in 6th grade and failed math in 5th grade and was on an academic contract. I do great some years in math and bad other years. I’m on the fast track in high school. I don’t like math at all though.

I am very good at reading and prob. the best out of all the subjects. I usually score average-above average on reading standardized tests. I hope to become a print journalist some day.

Grammar is a week point. I am very good at writing and reading, not so much grammar. I usually do fine and not as bad as math. I usually do fine and score average and I seem to do fine with it.

I’m usually not a great test taker though, but I was told I should take it for the first time my sophomore year. I have not taken the SAT yet either and I have heard the ACT is easier.

I want to take it because I may apply to Bard College at Simon’s Rock this fall, an early college. It’s not required but I want to see how I do. I take the PSAT for the first time this fall. Wait, are you just a freshman in high school? I wanted to know if it would be enough time to start soon and study.

Why take the ACT as a sophomore?? This summer you should concentrate on community service, self studying for some AP’s/classes, and researching a little about colleges.

“I want to take it because I may apply to Bard College at Simon’s Rock this fall, an early college. It’s not required but I want to see how I do. I take the PSAT for the first time this fall.”

Early college? As in go to college in Junior year of high school? Good luck man.

I skip my junior and senior year and then go to Simon’s Rock for two years and then prob. transfer to another school. I’d graduate at 20.

A friend of mine did this. He went to Simon’s Rock too.

I really don’t see the advantage. You are skipping the best years of high school and college for what? Graduating early?

This is one of the toughest job markets in history. If anything now is the best time to stay in school for as long as possible.

Graduating early is pointless if you can’t find a job.

I’m still not positive on the idea, but it would give me a head start. In acting especially the younger you are the better. Also, who knows if we will still be in a recession and we are talking about 5 years from now until I would graduate college.

"I’m usually not a great test taker though, but I was told I should take it for the first time my sophomore year. "

worst advice ever for potential ivy leaguer / person going for highly competetive schools.

my current public school counselor says the same thing, along with a lot of other dumb things. That’s why most ppl at my school just ask me for advice.

I’m going to be a sophomore, too. :).

I am not liking your prospects on the ACT. I mean, you are pretty much the opposite of me. My scores were 32 eng, 28 math (outrage), 23 reading, 26 science. I can’t imagine you doing that well in science, since it is pretty math oriented. Also, I had an A+ in Algebra II death (comparable to most high school precal courses), and I got a 28 on ACT math. I had been getting into the 30s on practice tests, but on the real thing I ran out of time. :(

I would definitely brush up as much as possible on math and english, if I were you.

I was going to take it because I was going to go to a early college. I’m good at English, but Social Studies is my best subject. I usually score good on tests in English though. I just wanted to take it to see how I would do and because if I did good, I would have a leg up on Simon’s Rock.

PS- I’m not dumb. I don’t have a 4.0, but I’m in all honors and AP classes. I also know a lot about college for my age and I tell people advice too. As you can see I do have 1, 255 posts.

um, just some experience: in middle school i took the acts and did…really bad. mainly because of an 18 on the science section. a few months ago i retook it and did…really good. mainly because of the 36 on the science section.
why? because i took an ap science this year. if you’ve barely done one lab science class, then i would really not recommend the act and suggest the sat.

I am going to be a sophomore. I took Honors Bio and that’s it and I got a B both semesters. I don’t know anything about chemistry or physics though. I’m going to ask my counselor when I get back to school, but should I start now and then don’t take it. I was going to study for the PSATS too. I also have a new counselor next year, I had a freshman counselor last year.

physics is pretty easy and guessable: i didn’t take physics yet when i took the acts.
but chem is hard and another story.

Hopefully my guessing is good, I did some Physical Science in Middle School though.

I’m not calling you dumb, I’m just saying that if you don’t consider yourself less than good at math and grammar, and you say you got a “B” in a science class…that’s three out of four sections right there. I was just trying to make sure you know what you’re up against with the ACT.

Um, just study and use practice tests until you know what your ready to take the ACT.

I did a lot better on the ACT after I finished my sophomore year.

I’m in HONORS CLASSES & AP. I’m on the fast track for math and I am suppose to take AP Cal my senior year. I’m average at both math and grammar. As I said, I do good sometimes and bad other times in math. I usually do average. A B is good in science, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m average at Grammar and I usually get a B when I have tests on it, but I usually do good in grammar too. I meant grammar was a weak point compared to reading and writing. What is this suppose to mean, “you go a “B” in a science class” Um, I got a B in an Honors Bio Class thank you very much, it’s not CP. I don’t trust someone who is actually the same age as I am and I actually know more about college’s and such. You don’t know why I’m taking it either. I have done a lot of research thank you and you sound like you’re 50 years older. In reality, you are the same age as me. I’m not a College Prep Student, I usually make A’s and B’s.

Thanks cjgone that’s what I plan on doing.

“I usually do good in grammar too”

You obviously can’t do that well* considering you made a blatant mistake right there.
