I am 26 and have decided to finally go to school. I would like to know if it is too late to start if I would like to eventually try and get into law school. Also any ideas on what what I should do if I am starting at a community college.

In four years, you’ll be 30. You can be a 30-year old college graduate, or you can be a 30-year old wishing you went to school.

It’s never too late to pursue something, and I can tell you that there are students in their 30s in law school. There was actually a man in his 60s in my law school. He was pursuing his dream in retirement (presumably he was rich enough that he didn’t have to worry about student loans!).

To achieve your dream, you’re going to need focus. You will have to look at how to get the 4-year degree, so your Community College credits will need to transfer. Perhaps your CC has a relationship with local 4-year colleges, that guarantees you admission after the first 2-years? You will also need to get very good grades. Try to keep debt as low as you can, since law school is so expensive. Develop relationships with professors through college, so they can give you good reference letters. Stay out of trouble, so you don’t have arrests or academic discipline on your record. By your third year, you will be studying for the LSAT.

I do suggest that you pick up books on law school to make sure that this is the final goal that you really want.
