On my Common App, I indicated that I organized fundraisers for various charities but forgot to include how much money I’ve raised. Is it too late to email each of my colleges’ admissions offices (some of which are Ivies) to include this on my app?
I wouldn’t bother. Unless it was a truly massive amount, it won’t make a material difference to your application.
And is it too late to ask a recommender to send in an additional rec? I wasn’t aware that you could send in additional letters outside of the Common App.
Again, unless it is a game-changer of a recommendation that says something no other recommendation covered, I would not bother at this late point. Admission officers are not looking for more to read.
It’s a fairly large amount. My main question is if it’s too late for them to consider it for admissions.
Reread that. Adding more (unimportant) info could be a detriment.
I have seen many posters say that by all means you should update your ad rep if something significant occurs, such as winning a prize or some kind of recognition.
^^^However, in this case the OP has nothing new that is significant. He/she is simply looking to add a little more detail to what is already in the application.
Depending on the school, it may not be too late yet. Although updating the admissions office of this extra information may not help a lot, it certainly won’t hurt either. If you want to send in the update, read up on your school’s policy for sending extra information and proceed from there. Just remember to keep the update nice and short.
I wouldn’t send it if it doesn’t add anything new to your application, but if you feel that the update adds more to your standing, go ahead and send it. I’ve seen people send in extra material through mid-February, all of which arrived on time for consideration, so don’t worry about timing (as long as you don’t send in March or something).
