I'm a sophomore, and I've been looking around. And the thing is, most say seniors only. Very few are for underclassmen, and those that do are for trivial amounts of money (I know, I know, they add up, but sometimes I just don't think the grand prize of $100, or the more likely amount of $25, is worth the effort)

So, when's the ideal time to start looking? Might I find more opportunity as a rising junior this summer?

i've been having trouble myself getting scholarships and i am a junior.
you just have to keep looking, and not on just one sight like fastweb or *****************. i have accounts on at least 5 different sites. they sometimes have the same scholarships but sometimes they have different ones.

it's definitely not too soon to start looking. this way, you don't feel too much pressure, like i feel, and im only a junior.

just keep looking. i always look for a couple a week and work on those. something else you could do is look locally for scholarships. often times local businesses will give out scholarships, ranging from about $100-$1000. it just depends where you live, grades, status, etc.

It is not too early at all! I started looking for scholarships during the summer between my sophomore and junior years. Sure, I did find a lot of scholarships for seniors only, but I used that to my advantage.

I created a Google Calendar. Everytime I would find a scholarship that I thought I might want to apply for, I would add it to my calendar about 3 months before the deadline to remind me to look for info on that particular scholarship in the future.

This kept me ahead of the curve. As my senior year approached, I already knew what scholarships were available. I just had to update the deadline and fill out the application. It took a lot of pressure off because I didn't have to search for scholarships to apply for.

Good luck!
