Thank you for your information. I was just looking for the article.
So it was true after all… I am an international student, so the tuition increase is going to be quite tremendous then.

Do you think it will affect the transfer admission process?
They will accept less transfer students, for example.

I’m just glad I went to community college first. That way I have a buffer before the big weight of what we call university tuition is put on our backs.

Whatever they have to do to keep the quality of the UC’s up. Id hate to waste all the time at UCLA if its turns bad now and no one thinks of it any better than any podunk state

Locals of LA probably won’t chance their opinion on UCLA, even if it goes down a little. There are/will be plenty of job opportunities when we graduate. Work experience eventually outweighs the name of your school, in most (not all) cases.

Because of their serious needs for money, wont they accept more students from outside California? UCs are state funded universities, but the state no longer can afford to fund the schools. They may accept more students who pay more to UCs, possibly

there is a legal cap to how many out of state studetns they can accept so i wouldnt expect that to raise significantly
as for gpa and number of acceptees i think only time will tell

im not saying i want them to lower their standards just for the budget, but i really doubt .5 drop in gpa stats wont hurt them and their reputation. standards have recently gone up A LOT in the past 3 yrs. the average gpa for sociology at ucla was 3.5-3.4 a couple yrs back, and they were still one of the top undergrad sociology universities in the country. now if ucla started to lower their standards to like below 3.2, THEN i would be concerned. but it is likely that they might be more generous with a .5 difference, which i dont consider all that bad.
