alright guys, this is something common. i had a summer class of physics 1 for scientists and engineers, grades were a bit inconsistent as the following: 83 90 72 71 and final exam was 90 lab isnt known and homework was about 78
do you think i can convince my prof to change my B to A? thanks
Why would your professor change your grade? You earned a B. Not an A.
just move on.
i thought the same. it just sucks cuz i dont know my lab grade and A is 85/100 since exams were tough. but yea i have to move on. thanks
Did you discover an error? Did the numbers not add up to a B?
If not, then please reconsider asking for a grade change. As a teacher, I’m happy to correct an error. But I know of no teachers who have any respect for grade grubbers. I give the grade you’ve earned. I don’t add points for kids who are dissatisfied with the grade they’ve earned.
thank you for the reply. i understand your point, its just that he never posted our grades including lab grades and the only way to know them was to email him, so im not sure if it was an error or not. if its not i just know that i was on the boundaries of a A lol which would be fair once i know how he graded my lab reports
Asking for your individual grades or the calculation is fine. Asking for a change in grade if the final grade was correctly calculated is not.
Being on the boundary of a grade isn’t the same as having earned the grade. You can ask for your grades so you can do the calculations yourself, but if you didn’t earn an A then I wouldn’t ask for it. If the professor gives you extra points he has to give them to every student who took that course from him. That means adjusting grades for many students. At some colleges it requires permission from the Dean, and if no error was involved there’s not any reason for the professor to ask or for the Dean to permit it.
I agree with what everyone else wrote.
I presume that the grades you listed are for tests? If so, you only earned an A-level grade on one test and the final. You earned a B-level grade on another test, and C-level grades on two others. In my book, that adds up to a ‘B’, and not an ‘A’.
I am unclear, though, about what is ‘common’ about your situation? These are common grades for you, or you commonly find yourself in the situation of asking for a higher grade?
