I have 6 schools whose merit aids were greater than my #1 choice's (with a difference of up to $5,500/year), though I'm not sure if it's worth a negotiation because I don't want to look/sound like a fool trying to beg. I don't even think that my #1 school matches others' packages. Is it worth a try? How should I go about doing it?

What are the schools? Is your top school a much better school?

Some schools will match offers from peer schools.

doesn’t hurt to ask

Well, the school that I want to go to has a better anthro program than the other 4 schools, that school being Beloit, considering only the fact that Beloit’s anthro is not combined with soc. The other 4 are Knox, Wooster, Earlham, and Kzoo. Aquinas also gave me more merit aid.

absolutely give it a try - if Beloit really is your first choice, let them know it and they may wish to see your other offers. It isn’t necessarily comfortable asking for more $ but if you don’t and that’s the difference between you going or not it could be a life changer. I do know they don’t play games and their offers are very, very fair but I think you should try anyway. I think everyone would always like to be offered more aid but if you really feel that it would make the difference between you going or not then you need to talk to the FA office.

Ok, thanks! I’ll give it a try!

Beloit gave me more $$$!!!

That’s great! Congratulations!

That’s great. BTW adding little meat to the post might make it more helpful to other readers. Gave you “more money” could mean an increase of 5 dollars, or maybe 5000 dollars… only you know :)

2500…not much, but worth it I think
