I would wait until August because you don't have any use for the laptop now, right? Also, there might be a price, which I doubt, and possiblely new features might be added.

To the guy who said that 1.66 for 1000,
Rated speed doesn't mean everything. There are many things to consider such as L2 cache, bus speed, etc. Also, the 1.66 may not mean it's 3.32, but there are actually two 1.66 processors in your laptop., which speeds up computing.

well, you could always wait and buy one through your school. They usually have some good deals/ nice warantees. Plus, you can get it fixed for free through their computer service guys.

Don't wait for windows vista. They keep delaying it, so who knows when it will actually come out. I'd say wait until August. That way you can buy it through your school, or the computer companies usually have some sort of a back to school special.

Vista is likely to be out in 2007. However, there is little point in delaying for long, since it WILL run on slower rigs, albeit without all the visual goodies turned on.

There's two reasons that is a bad idea. Those are WAYYYYYY too expensive, and Dell just bought out Alienware so they're going downhill now.

Check this site out. They have decent Dell deals EVERY day.

NEVER get a dell. IT's like intel; They're overpriced, overadvertised, and give you too little for what you paid too much for.

To the guy who said intel duo increases battery life....
do you have a pulse?
If one intel saves power, and you put in another core, which also saves power, you're not saving MORE power, you're just saving more ppower than say, an AMD dualie.
Anyway I think you should tell us what you're looking to do with it till we can really help you. Most of the suggested laptops are really good, and If you can afford an Alienware than get it or a Voodoo, although I'm not sure if Voodoo makes laptops.

...good idea. I didn't think of that. But then again microsoft delays it's products for atleast a few years before they "fix" all the bugs.

You do realize that Vista, prior to being Vista, was called "Longhorn?" Vista is a very near mature product.

There is no guarantee that this will be true in any way. Completely unfounded statement, based on ZERO evidence.

Actually, depending on the rig, certain Intel builds (Prescott) can be more cost effective than their similarly billed Athlon counterparts. It's only at the flagship level that the Athlon price difference becomes particularly apparent.

Do you actually know what you're talking about? The Core Duo saves power based on architecture. Two cores can lead to better power usage.

do you suggest a Vaio?....because vaio is my favorite computer and my whole family has vaio....we just bought a new vaio desktop and its 3.2GHz and its pretty fast
do you link vaio can be comparable to any other brand? if so then which one?

I tend to be against brand loyalty, to be honest. I'm the type of shopper who buys specific models based on reviews, rather than simply basing it on the brand name.

Some VAIOs are wonderfully built. Others, not so much. I tend to find way too much superfluous "extra junk" built into the Sonys (like memory stick readers and whatnot) for my taste.

However, the Japanese definitely seem to have cornered the "beautiful screen market."

...So you're telling me that you can get an Alienware for under $700? Did you know that the cheapest one STARTS at $700 + all the upgrades and **** you'll need.

BestMiler1, I like Vaio's but I always thought that Sony was a bit expensive, but maybe not in laptops, never raelly looked at Sony laptops. Hp is good for laptops though.

The average alienware computer costs $4,000. Most maxed out laptops don't even cost that much. Buying a low-end alienware computer is pretty dumb. Though I'm not sure what dell's effect on alienware will be.

I think it's fairly obvious that I was responding to your prediction that Alienware will go downhill based on its new ownership.

I think average Alienwares run closer to $2500, but that's just picking at nit. Alienware is terribly overprice, at any rate.

The purchase by Dell is unlikely to affect much of anything, since I'm under the impression that Dell plans on basically letting Alienware run fairly independently. Think Hong Kong's return to the PRC, but with fewer Communists.

Amazingly, that is pretty cheap, yet nicely equipped. I nevver expected a Sony to be priced just right, althou I love sony. But do you have a Vaio laptop?

BTW, Uclari, I doubt it's going down fast, but I checked out the website a day after Dell bought it out, and not only did they change the website to all HTML like Dell's website, but all the prices went down by about $150, which I think, hints at something.

O and did you people notice most of the Alienwares use AMD? Theres a reason for that...

I just tried to custmize the cheapest laptop on the Alienware site and when equipped with what most Dell's come with, it costs $1733.00. so really, all you're paying for is the brand name.
