Is it worth it for me to apply to barnard as a transfer student?

hi guys! i’m a current freshman at a top 20 university who is highly interested in transferring to barnard. i currently have a 4.0 GPA at my institution and hold leadership positions in a few organizations. i am confident that i will craft a quality essay and get equally decent letter of recommendations from my professors, since i have developed close relationships with most of them. my high school gpa was a 3.9 unweighted, and i took a rigorous courseload. my test scores were not that stellar but still within the range of accepted freshmen at barnard. i plan on retaking the act in february

however, i come from a considerably low-income family. my family’s efc is 0, and both of my parents make approximately $30,000 annually combined. i am aware that barnard is need aware for transfer applications, so is it worth it for me to apply? do i have a realistic chance of getting accepted if i’m going to require significant financial aid? i’m very passionate about the academic and extracurricular opportunities available at barnard and truly see myself thriving there, but i don’t want to spend money to forward my application if the admissions office is going to glance at my family’s income and automatically reject me. i would love to hear any advice and/or information you guys can give me, especially if you are a low income student who has successfully transferred into barnard. thank you!

As your stats appear to be strong, the need-aware policies for transfers shouldn’t be a barrier. You do need to apply as a fall transfer – Barnard is not able to provide financial aid for incoming spring transfers. Generally, need-aware policies impact students who are at the margins in terms of admissions decisions. Barnard will accept as many low-income transfer students as its budget allows — so you have as good a chance of being one of them as anyone else.

Just think carefully about why you want to transfer to Barnard. Can the school provide something your current top-20 college cannot?
