I am thinking of transferring to Troy High School in Fullerton as a Junior.
The current High School I am in a high school in anaheim. I was wondering if Troy would give me a better chance at getting in UC Berkeley.
Currently, I am president of a club, in Jrotc and Track. I am also planning on doing other things.
Is it worth it for me to transfer for a better academics and maybe a chance at Science Olympics and Programming Contest or to stay and continue these extracurriculars at my school?
Why? Granted, tons of people flock to perceived feeder schools for better college admissions, but the whole hype about getting into ThE beST COLLeGeS is pretty overrated to me.
I’d first think about the friends you’ll be leaving behind. Beyond moral support, these people can (and most often will) help you throughout the most stressful years of high school. You’re still a sophomore, so consider how your social connections with the people you care about will be affected if you switch.
The STEM EC’s you’re mentioning are things you can do anywhere. If you don’t have them at your school, start them. That’s what I did, and it worked out fine. The same goes for your academics. You’d be learning practically the same things anywhere, so I’d just focus on doing well at the school you’re at. There’s no need to catapult yourself into a pressure cooker environment for no reason other than a perceived boost in college admissions. You’re in-state for UCB, and assuming you keep applying yourself and stay involved in school, you really shouldn’t be obsessing over not getting in (although different majors may have slightly different stories heh)
Ok, I’m done my rant. Back to CS homework!!
But my High school isn’t offering the AP classes like AP computer science and Physics I want to take. And Troy places high in most of their completions.
Are you in high school or college?
You seem to be a cool CS student.
https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist/institution/1434/schools indicates that all but two of the comprehensive high schools in Anaheim Union HSD have AP CS A and/or AP CS principles. And all of the comprehensive high schools have an AP physics course.
