Is it worth the money to attend NYU (or any expensive college for)? Class of 2023

I did read your posts. I didn’t see any living arrangements. Just vague plans to get a apartment in NYC for a few hundred a month. Your financial calculations don’t seem to include food either. Just an explanation that you’re a vegan and know how to eat cheap. Good luck with that in Manhattan.

If you read the terms of service you’d know neither is possible. Your question, “Is it worth the money to attend NYU?” has been answered. I suspect you just don’t like the answer.

There’s no guarantee that you can graduate early from NYU. Just because you want to doesn’t mean they’ll let you. Off campus housing in NYC is astronomically expensive, and outside scholarships are small, one time grants that are difficult to find. If you do, they have to be reported to your college. Many colleges just subtract them from the aid they offer.

NYU has already told you they plan to charge you more every year. They offered you minimal aid, so they aren’t trying to attract you. They want the OOS dollars. Go into debt to give it to them if that’s what you want. But you can do better.

@violetr6 wrote “I will refer you to my above comment about the $25k. $2000 a month is very feasible for them, but I shouldn’t even need to justify this. Also I will be re-paying my parents similar to re-paying a loan just without the predatory aspect, so they will not be destitute upon retirement, not to mention that they aren’t retiring anytime soon”"

I suggest you consider the concept of compounding, inflation and real interest rate with regard to the money your parents will give you now in exchange for your plan to repay them at some future point. It’s not “predatory” to charge interest.

Moreover, they dont have any money now. What if your father loses his job again? Its not wise to buy luxury good when you have no savings. And make no mistake, your attendance at NYU is a luxury good.

Finally, your question has been answered. By me and others. Go back and read your original subject line. You just dont like the answer. You should understand that you are putting your parents at risk of considerable financial and emotional stress via this plan of yours to attend NYU with 10K a year of aid.
