Hello my name is Jordan and I am currently a sophomore at the University of North Dakota working toward a degree in finance investments, and accounting.

My vision/goal: My future vision academically and professionally is to get my undergraduate degree in finance and possibly accounting, go on to get some work experience and apply to graduate school at an Ivy League or target school(New York University-Stern school of Business; MIT). Ultimately, these are goals of mine that lead to an investment banking job in New York City. That is the biggest element of my 'Big Plan' is working an living in the heart of Manhattan.

Current achievements and academic standing: GPA - 3.587
53 credits to be completed by the end of spring.
Got on the Dean's List freshman year as a business student
Received the D.J. Robertson award for achieving "Straight A's" fresh yr.
Work Experience at Polycom Headquarters in San Jose California as an intern
Finance Committee Chair in Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity

Current issue: I am looking to transfer to the University of Wisconsin - Madison and have already applied and am currently waiting to hear back. Madison has a far better business school ranking 41 overall and 21 in undergraduate finance, nationally. University of North Dakota's business school is no match for those rankings coming in with an overall rank of 173 and no ranking for undergraduate finance. Madison has many big investment banks such as Goldman, JP Morgan, and Barclays, that students have internship/employment opportunities in. These opportunities are a big academic driver for me to want to transfer. Conversely, I have a life here in North Dakota. I know that this flip side may seem minuscule compared to the benefits of transferring, but it would be a big deal to just get up and leave to a different school without knowing anyone.

(Additional info): I would get a double major in Finance Investments and Accounting if I stay here at UND.
At UW-Madison I would get a degree in Finance, Investments, and Banking(all on major), and a minor in accounting.

I guess what I am trying to ask is will transferring to UW-Madison benefit me so differently from UND that I will get employment and graduate school opportunities that will affect my overall 'Big Plan'?

If I don't transfer are my chances of getting good work experience, attending a target graduate school, and living in NYC vastly diminished?

If not vastly, what are some experiences with this that you've had that could give me some insight?

Does undergrad school even matter that much to employers down the road?

I know that was too much info, but if I could get some feed back on just a few topics it would be really great. Each of us has a vision for ourselves, and it would be enormous to get some help from anyone and everyone.
