Is it worth trying to transfer this year or should I wait?

I’m a current freshman undergrad student at Bentley University and I’m interested in transferring to either UVA or UNC-CH for a variety of reasons. I don’t hate Bentley but there are significant reasons I want to leave so while I would prefer not to wait, I am willing to. Do I have a shot at either of those schools (likely to major in econ at both) after just one semester or should I wait to transfer into junior year?

Stats:
High School:
GPA: 3.6
SAT: 1330 (CR+M)
Strong upward trend (about a 3.3 GPA going into junior year), solid ECs

College:
3.8 GPA through one semester.

So do I have a shot at transferring now or should I wait until next year?

Why not. And if it does not work out, you can apply again next year.

Fair point but there is risk involved in that. I feel like if I don’t do more ECs and boost my grades more them reviewing my application for a second time with little more than another semester of work may hurt me. That’s my main concern in not just potentially trying twice.
