Is ITM a good major for systems analyst?

I joined the itm club at my school and I want to become a systems analyst. However, I see a lot of posts on other sites saying that ITM is a bad major and one should look at computer science. But, I hate science. Am I headed down the right path? Is it a good major? I’m very passionate about this career.

Computer science is not science in the sense you are thinking of it. I wouldn’t worry there.

Guessing that ITM is IT Management (?), and if your passion is there, then you want to major in something that is an IT program probably. Computer Science has better prospects but is very different. IT is management, CS is the programming itself. CS is also much more research and theory as well as software development, which is the most common job. Of course, CS is more versatile - getting an IT job with a CS degree works just fine, but IT to CS is a lot harder.

What exactly is your passion for? What do you enjoy about the IT / CS world specifically?

“IT is management, CS is the programming itself” is an oversimplification and not entirely true. There are programming classes and skills in IT, but I would agree that the CS programming skills are more deeply technical and math-based compared to IT. But you can get business-oriented programmimg jobs with an IT degree depending upon the classes you take. Plus, there are people with CS degrees who work themselves into management roles as well. However I would agree that CS gives you more flexibility, especially if paired with a business minor.

For the OP, what is your definition of systems analyst? If more business oriented to bridge between business and the technology group, especially in a business setting, then the IT degree is probably better (can’t speak to the ITM through, not familiar with that). If your SA is more around designing systems then I’d agree that the CS degree would likely be better.
