I got denied from their engineering school, but got accepted to their Biology school. I also got the "James Scholar Honors Program. Naturally, I would wonder if this was bullshit, because I denied from their engineering school, which means I'm not going there. It sounds like a lot of bullshit IMO.

I guess you were picked as LAS James Scholar honors because your stats is within top 10 (or 15%) of admitted applicants in that college.

James Scholars designation means you get first crack at course scheduling, and an opportunity to graduate with honors from a top notch Biology program. If Biology wasn’t your first choice, the offer means they are interested in you, but were able to fill your first choice with other applicants having stats, extracurriculars, essays and/or course rigor that were better than yours. It’s not personal. They try to fill each program with the best applicants possible. If you do well your first year, most programs will allow you to apply for a transfer. Prove them wrong, and you’ll be able to transfer. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you’re successful.

James Scholar is offered to those in the top 12% of those admitted to the college. There is no scholarship attached to it. However, as noted above, one of the advantages is getting priority in your applicable class for registration for classes. That alone makes it valuable.
