Is Legacy Status Considered during EA or RD?

Hi there, just wondering if legacy status is only considered during ED. I’m specifically asking about Santa Clara University, where I am a double legacy. However, I don’t want to apply ED but I’m worried that my legacy status will not be considered if I apply EA. According to the CDS, Almuni relation is labeled “Important” and on the website, “As many of our alumni’s children and grandchildren apply, it is a great option to showcase interest. Applicants with alumni ties will receive the most consideration for their affiliation with the University during the ED I process” (https://www.scu.edu/admission/undergraduate/first-year-students/early-or-regular-decision/).

I am not too worried, as I believe I could get in without the legacy status, but I was just wondering if anyone had any input on this. Thanks!

The statement you quoted implies that consideration of legacy will be greatest during ED I, but does not state that it will not be considered in EA, ED II, or RD.

You should ask the AO directly. The statement says that, “ Applicants with alumni ties will receive the most consideration for their affiliation with the University during the ED I process" . So they are straight up saying that ED1 applicants get “the MOST” consideration, but it does not state that other applicants will not get ANY consideration at all.

IMO, it’s unlikely that you are going to get any quantified amounts of how much consideration legacy counts during ED2, EA, RD but you may find out if you get any. It appears to me that SCU is going to try to make it happen for all ED1 legacy applicants , but it will vary according to all sorts of other things after that.

I was told that Penn only gives any legacy consideration for ED applicants and after that, it’s not even a consideration. They are very direct about that when asked.

@ucbalumnus @cptofthehouse thanks for the suggestion about contacting the AO! I’ll do that
