I am concerned about my daughters schedule for next year (senior year). She has taken all the math offered at her high school., i.e all the way through Calculus and is now in AP Statistics. There are no more options for her to take in math for next year. She was on a block schedule taking math all year and started early with Algebra I in 7th grade, so she finished the math early. She actually has 7 math credits. We were advised that college admissions look for math in senior year. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this accelerated math track will now hurt her chances with her applications? Thanks for any input.

No, I did the same thing. Advising seniors to take math their senior year is primarily aimed at students who take the minimum requirements and coast senior year.

yea one of my friends did the same thing…your daughter will be fine as long as her schedule is challenging.

OMG. Thanks so much! I was so worried for her. They made it sound like she would be automatically rejected if she didn’t take math next year. She is planning 4 AP courses, 3 honors and P.E. (still hasn’t taken this yet) next year, so should be challenging enough. :)

^ the val at my school isnt taking math Senior year and he got into Harvard, Yale etc…

Agree that it won’t hurt her chances since she’s completed all that they offer at your HS. If she wants to enhance her application further (or if she’s just interested in taking more math), she can look into taking college coursework.

geek_son exhausted his high school’s math offerings as a junior. He’s enrolling at Harvey Mudd College in the Fall.
