It is an elective course, and I didn't anticipate getting a >D<!! I can't believe it. help? should i repeat the course so that the D doesn't count in my gpa?

AMCAS will count the D in your GPA regardless, so don’t bother retaking. This is a very severe blow. It’s theoretically possible that the rest of your GPA, MCAT scores, and EC’s will be enough to compensate.

okay, yeah i really don’t want to retake it. i learned nothing. and then they expect us to know the stuff on the test when they haven’t taught us anything!! errr. i guess i’ll just raise my gpa then with other classes. can i appeal? will that look better

I don’t know anything about Berkeley’s internal appeal process. I assume if you successfully raise your grade to (say) a D+, then AMCAS will count it as a 2.3 rather than a 2.0 or whatever.

A D would not be a 2.0, it would be a 1.0. A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.

To give you an idea how devastating that D is, if the OP took 15 units last semester, got the D in a 3 unit class and got As in other 12 units, she would have a 3.4 GPA for the semester which is not likely to get you into medical school unless you are a URM.

^^^ However, one semester with a 3.4 won’t kill you.

A D however is very serious.

BDM was under the influence of Christmas Eve eggnog when he wrote this. ;)

Md applications will not factor if you retake, however DO school applications do have a retaking policy that would replace, so worst comes to worst apply to DO schools

Hey! Does the “or whatever” defense mean nothing around these parts? :)

I do find it amazing that this thread got yanked up from the bowels for a “whatever” message.

OTOH, every time I read the thread i keep hearing Germans and Pearl Harbor echoing somewhere in the handful of braincells I have left functioning.
