I am not physically well,, and we had to spend around 8k on medicine, insurance payments, and things like co-pay and out of pocket money. I have mentioned my condition on the financial aid form, such as the profile, but am not sure if that will be taken into account. I do not know if the school will already have that covered by looking at the tax forms and trusting the information on the profile. After getting the financial aid award (from 100% need-based school), would it be good idea to submit the review and appeal letter with supporting documents anyway? Thank you.

There is an income protection allowance that is calculated in the EFC formula, and 11% of the IPA is allocated for medical care. To the extent that your bills (not including insurance premiums, which are not counted) exceed 11% of the IPA, the financial aid officer can make an adjustment to data elements used to calculate your EFC. You would need to contact the individual school’s aid office to discuss a special circumstances review for professional judgment.
