Is Montclair State Considered a Commuter School?

I’ve heard there’s not much campus life on the weekends and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on that?

The College Board website says just over half of first-year students and less than a third of upperclassmen live on campus. They call it primarily a ‘residential campus,’ though. Sometimes the numbers are lowered by students who don’t live in university-owned housing but who live in regular apartments very close to (sometimes walking distance) to the university; that way, it doesn’t really feel like a commuter school.

Not necessarily bad to hook up with one of your friends for the weekend once in while and get treated to spaghetti and meatballs at moms house.

Nephew is there now, and his social life is VERY full, including weekends. He loves it, says “everyone should go to Montclair State”. And he is one of those rare OOS kids too.

I should clarify that momofc7 actually lives relatively close to Montclair State, so coming home is not the issue, in fact, mine will probably be the occasional spaghetti and meatballs house (privatebanker). My concern is that he’d like to feel like he’s “away” and have a social life on weekends at school and I had heard campus can get quiet on weekends. Glad to know PostModern’s nephew if very busy socially.

Approximately 3/4 of students enrolled are commuters.
