I recently got into Mu Alpha Theta :D, and apart from 3 other clubs, its my only EC. Is it bad to have such few ECs though? Or better to just show commitment?

You don’t need a laundry list - just a few that you really care about and have put some effort and creativity into.

Mu Alpha Theta is a good EC if it, and you, actually do something worthwhile. Otherwise it means nothing other than you get good grades in math–which is on your transcript anyway.

Okay, but do you mean about creativity?

I do, I help tutor kids in both my school and the local junior high school. All the way from algebra to Calc I, usually spending a good 4-5 hours a week.

Depends on the school. For example, [Arizona State University Admissions Information - CollegeData College Profile](http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=1096) says that Arizona State University does not consider extracurriculars.

On the other hand, if you are aiming for super-selective schools which have more near-maximum-academic-credential applicants than they will admit, extracurriculars become more important in distinguishing between them.

I’m looking at mostly JHU, Cornell, and then a bunch of schools in the 30~50 range on USNEWS (Wake Forest, Tulane…etc) and finally Rutgers (Safety), In addition I have a 3.91 GPA (Unweighted, have 4 Honours classes, no APs (due to me moving)), about 2200 SAT score.
