I am currently a sophomore at a public high school in Arizona. I am ranked number 5 out of 481 students with an overall GPA of 4.0 unweighted and a 4.611 weighted. My PSAT score was 173 and my ASVAB score was an 89.
Freshman year: Honors Biology, Freshman Seminar (required), Air Force ROTC, Honors Geometry, Honors English 1, and Spanish 1
Sophomore year: Honors Chemistry, AP World History, Air Force ROTC, Honors Algebra 2, Honors English 2, and Spanish 2
Plan for Junior year: AP Biology, AP U.S History, Air Fore ROTC, Honors Pre-Calculus, AP Literature, and AP Spanish
I have run Cross Country as a varsity athlete both years and was voted to receive a team leadership award this year. I have also ran track both years and am most likely going to be varsity this year.
The question i am wondering is whether or not i am on track to get accepted into Stanford. I plan on joining at least 2 clubs next year and volunteering a lot this summer, but with not much free time it is hard. Also should i take Pre- Calculus over the summer at the local community college so that i can take AP Calculus next year? Finally, if you have any tips on how to balance sports, school, and volunteering i would greatly appreciate it.
Edit: I know that it is very unlikely for anyone to get into Stanford but i would just like some advice on how to improve my stock.
The Track and X-C leadership is great, but unless you have Division 1 times it isn’t going to help you at Stanford.
The GPA is good and I congratulate you on your diligence and attention to detail, but your standard test scores are nowhere near what you need. Your PSAT score is probably around the 80th percentile and Stanford scores are going to be in the 99 percentile range.
Don’t mention the ASVAB score again. That isn’t going to help you.
If you want to take advantage of AFROTC I’d look around for a good state flagship.
BTW, it’s not how many clubs you join, but what you do with the ones you have. What is it you are looking to study?

Everything in it applies to Stanford. Do what it says to maximize your chances.

I plan on studying a type of engineering but i am undecided on what type yet. I know that i won’t go to Stanford based off my times, i just put it in there to show some of my extra-curriculars.
What are your events?
I run the 4x800, 1600m, and the 3200m
I think your GPA and course load are on track to make you a decent candidate. Just make sure your senior year load is the heaviest.
The leadership with sports is good, but I think the one area that might hurt you is not having a strong extracurricular outside of sports. But don’t take my opinion too strongly, my only expertise is being an accepted student who recently went through the same process.
