Live in California, Female, first generation college student

Safeties:

SFSU
Temple University(I know nothing about this school but I know it offers what I need:major+ city)

Hunter CUNY

FIT schools:
UCSB
Univ of Pitt

Reach listed by difficulty:
UCLA
Boston University- dream school
occidental college -CA - probably won't apply
Pitzer college- CA- probably won't apply
GWU
Berkeley- I know my chances are low
Northeastern- is the co-op program forced upon every student? (doesn't seem good if i want to go to grad school...or does it?????)
NYU
USC- probably knocking this off----i actually forgot it in the first place...it's in ugly LA and its too much of a reach...right?

please give tips...my family is already supporting elder sibling in college and I will have to study abroad at least 3 times during college ( I want to be a polyglot), and my little sister is only 3 years a part from me....more college.

What schools should I apply for early action?

Most of those schools are very expensive.
What’s your budget? Will you qualify for need-based aid? Have you estimated your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)?

There’s a limit to how much study-abroad time you can realistically fit into 4 years. It can easily take a full academic year abroad to develop solid proficiency in a single foreign language. That’s after a year of basic classes in college (or a couple in HS), and before any advanced area studies courses.

Your GC isn’t likely going to discuss finances/budget with you and may grossly mislead you into thinking that financial aid will help you pay.

Many schools on your list are out of state publics and privates that won’t give you much/any aid.

Temple certainly isn’t a safety unless your parents have said that they’ll pay full out of state costs.

What is your budget? If you don’t know how much your parents will pay, then ask.

You’re in that gray area of having stats that are good enough to get into some colleges, but not high enough to get much/any merit scholarships nor high enough to get into the “meets full need” schools.

You need to find out how much your parents will pay and your FAFSA EFC, then we can help you with a list that will result in some happy results. Right now, you could get up with a bunch of unaffordable schools if your family won’t pay the costs.

However, if your family will pay $50k+ per year for any school, then we can help you with your list. :)

P.S. Where does your sister go to college and how much is that costing your parents. Then ask them how much more they can pay for you. That may be an issue if it’s a struggle for them to just pay her costs.

my elder brother goes to a music conservatory in SF which is about 40000 a year, but he usually gets close to full ride, my younger sister will most likely go to an arts school for dance.

I think that you should reconsider your reach schools. Are you willing to take the time to apply to all of them? At your current SAT/ACT it’s really unlikely.

For your scores and SATs, you have way, way too many reaches. Look into more match schools (you only have two of those and 7+ reaches? That’s dangerous). Northeastern is the only realistic one.

If you wish to major in foreign lang and you are considering Temple and Pitzer, then I suggest you look into Arcadia U in Glenside PA. It is a small regional school. It is a commuter train ride away from Center City Philadelphia. Small in size like Pitzer. Wonderful study abroad options beginning freshmen year. They have been trying to branch out. They have increased merit for high stats. Your geographic diversity and stats would earn you some merit money. Your SATs are above their mid-point. With a little bump in SAT you can comfortable get into the honors program.

The abroad programs have wonderful abroad internships.

Last I looked into it all FA/merit followed you for abroad study.

They take the Common App, low application fee ($25-$35) and rolling admission.
