I live in Oklahoma and currently attend a very competitive private school as a junior. This summer I am going to move to Texas and attend a large public school for my senior year with about 430 students in the class.

As you may or may not know, Texas has a Top Ten Percent law where you can get automatically admitted into any public college in Texas if you are ranked in the top 8-10% of your class. I'd really like to see if I have a chance of getting into the University of Texas at Austin through this law.

Since I'll be in the Class of 2012, I must be in the top 9% of my class.

I only ask for your opinions on my chances of getting into the top 9% of my class at my future Texas public high school.

Okay, at my current private school, I am ranked at about 17% in a class of 180. My weighted GPA is a 4.3. Simple GPA is 3.9.

Now, When I transfer to my new high school in Texas, my GPA will change because the school doesn't count non-core classes into the GPA. However, the school does weigh honor/AP classes the same way as my current school. For example, I'd get a 5 point credit instead of a 4 if I earned an A in either an honors and AP class. Assuming I can get straight A's the first semester of my senior year with all honors/AP classes at this new school, my GPA would be a 4.5 weighted.

My cousin attends the same Texas high school I'm about to transfer into, and she says "it isn't very competitive."

So finally, I am ultimately asking:

Based on your guess, would a 4.5 weighted GPA get into the top 9% of a class of about 430 students at an average public high school?

Thank You!

PS: I will certainly see my future school counselor about what my rank would be, but it will be a while until I'll be able to talk with him and I'd just like to get your estimations and ideas.
