Is my laptop good for computer sci/engineering major?

I plan to attend a calstate or (if lucky ) a UC.
I currently just bought a Dell XPS 15 l502x during March 2011.
Specs:

CPU- Intel Core i5 2410 2.3Ghz with Turbo Boost Tech up to 2.9 Ghz [Dual Core]
Grpahics - Nvidia GT 540M 2 GB with Optimus (yay)
6 GB of DDR3 ram
"640 GB" of Hard drive storage space (in reality it's 581 gb >>)
9 cell battery (awesome) with 720p HD Screen.

Battery Hours is about 8 hours w/o wifi connection and at battery save settings using microsoft word only with integrated graphics 1 gb enabled.

So is this computer good enough for Beginning and later on computer science for the whole college year?

Absolutely,

Past that set up you want a tower

Hows the Optimus feature working out for you?
Happy? Glitches?

thats awesome!

It’s working nicely.

I think that will be more than enough.

Get the biggest baddest monitor you can afford - 22" is the minimum for my tired eyes -
