Is this a good laptop spec for a CS major?

Dell Studio 1550

CPU: i3 350M @ 2.27 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD Mobility 5470
RAM: 8GB DDR3 667 MHz (I know, really slow)

I bought this thing back in 2010, and it has served its purpose as well as I could as of it. I'm hoping to go to NCSU for Comp. Science. I'm also planning on building a more beefy desktop for use in the dorm. Will this laptop work for Comp. Science?

bumpity bump

Probably yes

that i3 is quite meh, especially since there have been two new generations since its release.

You might want to get a new laptop. However, if you are building a beefy desktop, then this would probably be fine, though you may as well get a smaller and lighter laptop companion.

TBH, just buy a powerful laptop and skip on a desktop.

GPU doesn’t matter much unless you’re doing HPC in which the department usually has computers… I would try for at least a second gen i5. GPU isn’t very important by the way.
