Is my list ridiculous?

<p>In a nutshell, I'm a korean female (immigrant I am<<came to US 3 years ago. Didn't know any English :p) who just got deferred from UVA ED. I was hoping if any of you guys can help me with my list of schools I'm about to apply. So here goes:</p>

<p>28 ACT
1200 (500V 700M) SAT
710, 550 (writing), 690 SAT IIs
TOEFL: 273 (CBT) with 6 on the essay!! (highest)
GPA: 3.78(W)/3.73(UW)
10 IB/AP courses + 6 Pre-IB courses by graduation</p>

<p>I have the best recommendations anyone could ever ask for,
and GREAT ECs (in my opinion :p) </p>

<p>-I founded/co-founded 3 clubs at my school (all about activism/politics)
-I initiated County-wide gang prevention program (working with county government: school system and police force). I'm trying to produce a video that will be used in high/middle/elementary schools in my county.
-Selected to participate in a county leadership program (one in every school)
-went to VA girls state
-I've been working for numerous national/local elections
-just got accepted to work as an intern at senator cliton's office for spring, and rep. Moran's during summer.
-Have been a very committed member of Amnesty International for the last 7 years. </p>

<p>I mean, if you see the detailed list of my EC, you'll be able to tell that I'm an politic obsessed, liberal activist (not extremist). I hope to be a human rights lawyer, lobbyist, human rights officer @ UN, or politician in the future. HEHE</p>

<p>I think only "hook" I have, if considered is that I've been in US for 3 years, and I was in ESOL for a year to learn English. By Dec. 4th, It'll be exactly three years of US for me, YEAH!!</p>

<p>Ok, so here goes my list</p>

<p>REACH:
Johns Hopkins U (First choice, but couldn't apply early cuz of all immigration.. money problems :()
Northwestern U
NYU (freshman in florence program)
Cornell U (ILR)<<strong second choice if I have a shot
UVA (ED deferred, yeah, I'm northern VA resident BTW)
College of William and Mary
Wellesley College</p>

<p>Match:
Boston University
George Washington U.
Mary Washington U.
James Madison U.</p>

<p>Safety:
George Mason U</p>

<p>Please rate my chances, and give me some suggestions.
Any comment will be greatly appreciated!!</p>

<p>Raise your SAT scores by 100 points, and you will have good shot at all of your schools. Also, if you want to go to UVA, send them updates about your academic progress and continue doing well in your classes. Inform them about your new achievements, maybe send them a few essay (I am not too sure on that). Good luck :)</p>

<p>ditto boomer. also make sure your essay is really well written, perhaps on the issue of all the problems you encountered after immigrating. a good essay can make up for low scores and you can also dazzle the admissions people with your rapid increase in knowledge on essay writing. just a thot</p>

<p>Anyway.. I think you need to write really strong essays for all the other RD schools you're applying to. And possibly try raising that verbal and writing SAT scores..? But I guess it all depends on what field you want to major in..
And you're considered as a foreign/international student right?
It's impressive that you're doing 10 IB/AP courses.. which IB subjects do you take?
I do the full IB diploma..
Do you do the extended essay and TOK as well?
I think with a good essay and the list of stuff you mentioned.. you will have a good chance at most of those schools.
As for UVA, maybe send improved SAT scores... and possibly improved school grades? I've heard that if you get deferred from a school, you have to really show how much you're keen and be persistent.. and keep showing interest.. that will definitely work to your advantage. Good luck on that! :)</p>

<p>Johns Hopkins U, Northwestern U will probably be a reach, but I think you definitely have a shot.. try raising SAT scores though.
NYU (freshman in florence program) - good chance here. are you sure you wanna do the florence program though? i have a friend there now..
Cornell U (ILR) - i'm not sure what ILR is but again I think you have a shot.. just make sure you're app is very strong.
UVA - be persistent and show them that you're very interested.. take action!
College of William and Mary - i'm pretty sure you've got a good shot here.. i've got a friend that goes here and he lovesss it! he did IB too.. and lived in Alexandria
Wellesley College - a reach, but i'm sure with a strong app you'll have a shot.</p>

I really want to go to Hopkins, NYU (florence), or COrnell ILR although they all are high reach for me :p</p>

<p>Silver_wavez>> I'm not full IB because I wasn't allowed to take any foreign language course until my junior year because of ESOL issue, which is very unfortunate thing that happened. But I work as hard as any other full-IB students. HeHe.
Cornell ILR is the college of Industrial and labor relations. I heard it's very competitive school to get into, and especially with my low scores it'll be extra harder for me, not that I'm discouraged in any way :)</p>

<p>I think you can get into any of those if you make a good essay. I'd write on one of your ECs cause a lot of them seem unique.</p>
