My daughter's:

93 - 100 = A - 4.0
84 - 92 = B - 3.0
77 - 83 = C - 2.0
70 - 76 = D - 1.0
69 and under = Fail

This is why I think GPAs are sort of unfair when you measure school to school.

Also:

I remember reading some posts where the kids said that their College Prep Classes were actually Honors Classes.

For instance in our school, the top of the top takes Honors English.
The smart kids take College Prep english
Then there is remedial English

In no way could an honors class ever be regarded in the same breath as a CP class in our school.

grades should go by the 10s. grades that don't go by tens are confusing!

Agreed chalk.

It's also unfair that all those 90.00000000000001%'s I've gotten in classes count more than people who get 92.9999999999%'s in different grading scales.

94- 100 = A - 4.0
90 - 93 = B+ - 3.5
84 - 89 = B - 3.0
80 - 83 = C+ - 2.5
74 - 79 = C - 2.0
70 - 74 = D+ - 1.5

0 - 64 = F - No credit

i've been told that the reason canadian systems put 86%+ as A is because canadian high school courses are harder than the american ones.
[/quote]

Yeah, that must be the case, or else American education would be kicking Canada's ass, and that simply is not reality. Some of these American schools look crazy to me, regarding 92% as a B. And some people I've met on these boards have like 100% GPAs are like tied for fifth place!

93-100 A
90-92 A-
87-89 B+
83-86 B

70-72 C-
67-69 D+
63-66 D
60-62 D-
0-59 F

that's for courses that use numerical grades...many don't (like English, foreign languages..e.tc)

94- 100 = A - 4.0
90 - 93 = B+ - 3.5

(edited slightly from j0rb0b)

this is the grading system in fairfax county, va. IB courses at my school were given an extra .5 (like B+ = 4.0). GPA doesn't tell the whole story. It matters a lot what classes you take. Top institutions won't accept you if you didn't take a challenging course load. Pulling a 4.0 in non IB classes is easy as pie for students looking at tier 1ish schools, and many kids w/o IB classes had higher GPAs than kids in IB, but they have no chance at getting into the same schools.

This is how my school calculates our GPAs:

97-100 A+ 4.3
93-96 A 4.0
90-92 A- 3.7
87-89 B+ 3.4
83-86 B 3.0
80-82 B- 2.7
77-79 C+ 2.4
73-76 C 2.0
70-72 C- 1.7
Below 70 is failing

I thought this kind of system was standard, but apparently it is not. Getting A-'s at my school can really hurt your GPA, so I wish my school had the 90-100 is a 4.0 system- becuase it seems that how most of the other schools do it.

99-100 A+
98-97 A
96-95 A-
94-93 B+
92-88 B
87-85 B-
84-82 C+
81-78 C
77-75 C-
74 D+
73-72 D
71-70 D-
69 and below is failing.

Absolutely repugnant.

soccerguy315: What would be a good GPA at your school? Like to be in the top 5%? Cuz I recalculated mine to your system, and I went from a 3.9, to a 3.7(3.8 weighted).

Damn that really sucks.

Yeah, I'd kill myself with a grading system like that.

94 = B+? What kind of nazi's are these people?

hahaha, well... my school is as follows.. so not far off .. no differentiation with + and -

A 100-94
B 93-86
C 85-77
D 76-70
F 69-0

I think we all need to agree that measuring by GPAs is unfair. That's why the standardized system of SATs is good.

But not really, because GPA is a better judge of how hard people work and often how well they will do in life. SAT's measure potential, while GPA measures performance.

What is needed is a standard grading system that is used by every single school in the country.

wow...amazing.

my school's like this:

11.0 - A (94 or 96 and above, depending on the teacher)
10.0 - A- (90-94/96)
9.0 - B+ (87-90)
8.0 - B (84-87)
7.0 - B- (80-84)
6.0 - C+ (77-80)
and etc...

averaging them gives you the cumulative gpa...no weighting for aps or honors.
a ratio of 11:7=x:4.0 would convert my scale to the normal high school one. x, representing the grade, obvi

A 94-100
B 86-93
C 76-85
D 70-75
F 0-69

For all these people whose schools regard 94%s as B's... Is there a normal amount of A students? Is there grade inflation to make up for the extremely unforgiving scale?

soccerguy, i must have been wrong then, it must be a 63 is an F because I live in Fairfax County, too.
