Not sure if this thread belongs here but hopefully a mod will move it if not. Anyway, at my school we use a 4.0 scale where a A- is still a 4.0 B- is also still a 3.0 and B+ is still a 3.0 almost all Cali schools in my area use this because it is the UC GPA scale. Also because the schools are very competitive where I live.My GPA is a 3.70 however using the actual 4.0 scale it is a whole lot lower. On my final transcript I give to college my GPA will be around a 3.76 (took a class over the summer) will colleges just go with the GPA on the transcript? If not, will it hurt my chances a lot of very little? I basically have All A-s a couple As and a few Bs and B+s.
I am not worried about UCs and CSUs but I am worried about these colleges:
University of Southern California(Public Policy), University of Washington(Pre Business Admin), Boston College, Babson College,
Chapman, NYU (the LSP Program), Emroy(Oxford College), and Tulane.
A lot of schools will recalculate your GPA using their scale. They will also use your school profile to put your GPA in perspective. Just like the UCs would take an OOS and calculate their CA GPA.
Schools know that HS calculate things differently. NC gives a 2 point bump for APs and most other states get a 1 point jump. They aren’t going to say a NC student with a 4.8 is necessarily better than another kid with a 4.2 who doesn’t have the advantage of the larger bump for AP classes.
The schools know what they are comparing so don’t worry about your school’s methodology affecting your chances.
@123mom446 I’m talking about pure unweighted GPA without boosts and stuff. My brother told me to relax and that I won’t get rejected to a school I would have gotten accepted too, do you think this is true?
I use this thing called naviance at my school, and my counselor said that it is basically like a colleges “school profile” because colleges will see how I compare to other accepted students from my school, and I can see basically what colleges see on my navience, and that the naviance data is one of the best indicators.
This question can be for everyone as well ^
Your brother is right. Even UW GPAs are calculated different from school to school. Naviance will give you a great picture to see where you stack up against those from your school.
