Is my second semester senior year rigorous enough for mid-tier colleges? Taking only 6 classes.

I feel like I should have a more rigorous schedule but I am just applying to colleges with 30-60% acceptance rates. I am only taking 5 classes at my high school out of a maximum 7. I am also taking 1 college class at a 4 year university. Should I take more college classes? I have taking all AP classes at my school with the exception of AP Calc AB. There were scheduling conflicts so I couldn’t take AP Calc so I decided to just take it at a university. I took the math placement test and I ended up placing into the easier Calc class instead of the harder one for engineering majors and such. Can I mention this in additional info?

Senior Year:
Essentials of Nutrition (I took this class for dual-enrollment at a 4 year university)
AP Physics 1
AP Literature
Spanish 3
AP Government
Environmental Science

Spring

AP Physics 1
AP Literature
Spanish 3
Library Multi-Media
Environmental Science
Calculus for the Managerial, Life, and Biological Sciences (I take this class for dual-enrollment at a 4 year university)

Your schedule is fine. Mention the college class in the additional info.

What is your intended major in college?

If your intended major requires calculus for math, physics, and engineering majors, you should review your algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, so that you will be ready for that more rigorous version of calculus.

You should be fine for quasi-competitive admissions. I would mention the course you are taking at the college but not the reason you are taking that one and not another-since the reason was not one that is favorable for you. But it is great that you are pursuing math even though you might have had a reasonable rationale for avoiding it (scheduling difficulties).

Can you? Yes. Should you? Up to you. IMO, there is no need to mention it. Personally, I thing the additional info section should be used to expand upon something positive in your application and let the GC talk about any scheduling issues issues/her rec.

Back to the original question: 5 HS classes + 1 DE class is more than fine.

@ucbalumnus

I am going to major in humanities. I don’t think I will need to even take a math course in college, even if they do require it this Calc 1 course should probably be transferable(that’s what the college adviser told me).

@lostaccount
Well, I still could have taken Calc at my school but it wouldn’t be AP since AP Calc is only offered one period due to only 15 students being enrolled. Many others just decided to take Advanced Honors Calc 1(covers everything college calc 1 class would cover but is a lot slower paced since it meets everyday for 2 semesters). So taking the faster pace, one semester college version probably was the best idea.

@skieurope

Again, I don’t think I should have my GC mention it since it really wasn’t a big scheduling issue since Advanced Honors Calc was always an option. You’re probably right, there really isn’t really any need to mention it anyways since the one semester DE Calc 1 course will look the same or even better as the two semester AP Calc AB class right? But then again, I heard colleges want you to make use of your high school’s resources and take AP, so should I still mention why I decided to take it via DE? My school doesn’t offer the BC version or AP Stats.

No; it was still a scheduling issue. Colleges know that this happens. If you don’t think that it’s worth having the GC mention it, then it’s not worth mentioning.
