2 years of foreign language is only okay if you’re applying to not very selective colleges. All universities and LACs ranked in the top 50 expect 4 years (or AP, at top colleges). They don’t require it because low-performing schools may not offer it, but if your school offers 3 or 4 and you only took 2, it’ll be held against you. You’re expected to have one each of English, Math, Science, Social Science, and Foreign language every year. Junior and Senior year, you can “double up” on something to offset a weakness, but 2 years is really below par for any good college.
You can take foreign language at the community college, yes. In fact, college language classes go very fast, so you may start by reviewing in language 1 then take language 2 and 3, then the SAT subject test (yes, 3 semesters of college language are so fast-paced they should be sufficient for the SAT subject test.) That’ll establish your level and you’ll be good to go for top colleges.
I suppose PE2 is a requirement?
Can you take 1 more class during one of your semesters (probably the second one)?
@MYOS1634 In my high school they require 4 years of PE and I was thinking of taking a Spanish class at my local community college over the summer then take Spanish 4 and move public speaking to senior year. Would that be sufficient ?
Oh wow, 4 years of PE! Do they allow you to take it online, like through Florida Virtual School (you have a monitor to check you do your exercise every day :p) it’d be better for the summer anyway…
Yes, Spanish at community college than Spanish 4 would be fine for any college. Public Speaking, which is a bit easier, might be a good choice for senior year, especially Fall semester, when preparing applications is like having an extra class.
@MYOS1634 I don’t know if my high school guidance would allow PE online. They are very stubborn and not open minded. I had to struggle to allow me to double up on science and math. I feel like I am going to have a difficult time to get them to allow me to take Spanish over the summer then go on to Spanish 4.
Anish, it’s not “online”, it’s just “monitored” online (ie they have to wear a monitor that checks that they’re actually doing aerobics, strength conditioning, whatever).
