Is MyEdu really worth the 10 bucks?

I was getting quite a lot of information from ratemyprofessors, but it seems like MyEdu might be frequented more often. Just curious what people who currently use it thought...

And if anyone has used both that and ■■■■■■■, any comparison information would be great!

Myedu (formerly pick-a-prof) has been great for me. Planned out all my classes with some really good professors (if you can get them). They have many reviews on profs so you’ll know what each prof might be like. I registered and looked at ■■■■■■■ (free t-shirt?) and thought it wasn’t as good as Myedu, though it’s free.

Yeah that’s what drew me to ■■■■■■■, but a lot of their information seems outdated - some of the grade averages are based off 2007, but then I also found recent (fall 2009) exam notes, so it seems rather hit or miss.

Yeah, ■■■■■■■ is kind of new too…Well $10 didn’t seem like much to me for year. I’ll probably renew for another year when mine expires. But doesn’t UT have it’s own thing (CIS or whatever) that you could use too?

They mentioned it briefly at orientation yesterday but I’m not seeing any links for it so I’m going to dig around and see if I can find it. True, 10 bucks is rather cheap, but I’m super cheap and think information should be free. lol

Well that’s useless - I found the CIS results, but when you try to access it there’s an error message. Any chance that could be related to my registration window not being open until tomorrow?

NM - the system had logged me out. ;)

Lol. Is the CIS any good?

Eh, it’s pretty much backing up what I’ve already been able to find on ■■■■■■■ and RMP. There are no spaces for comments, just a list of 1 to 5 scale (strongly disagree to strongly agree) results on a variety of questions like courseload, organization, etc. I really like being able to see what the average grades coming out of the course look like, because I’ve learned the hard way what a poor instructor can do to your performance in the class regardless of intelligence or ability.

Awwhh. That’s it? Lol. Well, an investment in $10 can do wonders for your GPA/learning. xD

If a professor doesn’t have reviews on myedu, I’ll look at ratemyprofessor but I mainly use myedu. The people who post on both sites seem to either hate or love their profs since the opinions can vary drastically for a certain prof. I don’t know if myedu info is pulled straight from our course schedule or what though, like all the grade average info, but the planner on there is awesome and its convenient that all the unique numbers are there as well. In the end, you’re still going by your instincts to plan everything out and hope that you end up with a good prof, but I’d still recommend getting myedu.

I got a free year with myEdu at orientation (go to events, you get free stuff!) and I love it. It helps me a lot because it is really straight forward and in synch with the university courses. There are so many things offered on the site apart from rating professors. The people that made the site actually graduated from UT (and A&M).
You can also check out gagaspace.com. it’s a newer website, but it’s still worth a look. The owner is based in Austin.

I went to orientation but there was nothing about a free membership that I heard or saw - COLA gave out bags and t-shirts, yippee. lol I actually went ahead and paid for a year yesterday and so far I’m pleased. I’ll definitely check out gagaspace, thanks!

You’re welcome. At summer orientation they were giving things out left and right. There was an organization fair and I got 5 free t-shirts and a bunch of other stuff (including the membership)!
Good luck!

And if you help myedu out with giving them feedback on what features of the site you like, they’ll give you free membership as well. Idk how many times they’ve done this but they asked recently through email. I got 2 free years of myedu because of this.
