Is Neuroscience ...

A useless major? I will be a freshman this fall, and I am direct admit to the college of arts and sciences. I am also a pre-medical student, but I am wondering what I would do with the major if I did not get accepted into medical school...would it be hard to get a job with a graduate degree or PhD in the field?

michplusdich,

You asked the right question. Since you are going to be a pre-med, just take some required pre-med courses along with other general education courses. You will have time to switch to a different major as a sophomore if you change mind about your major. It would be a different story if you are not a science student since your opportunity of getting into a science lab working on a meaningful project may be relatively low.

@mich,

I wouldn’t say Neuroscience is a useless major, but definitely a “new” major. Because of that, it may been seen as more of a complementary major, pairing well with Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, etc. If Neuroscience is your only degree, it may be seen as more suspect. Then again, applying to medical school, it may be seen as innovative and fresh to have such a major. It’s hard to say. If you enjoy it, major in it.
