Thanks. Are you still guaranteed housing during a Coop semester?
That I don’t know. My daughter was just accepted EA so we are just beginning this process. I did read that if you Coop locally, that you can live on the Northeastern campus. I think that would be appealing in terms of being near friends and having a social life. But, I do not know at all the logistics of housing at this point.
This is still (and will always be, hopefully) true but remember that unless you have incoming AB/IB/DE credit to lessen it, you’ll still have to take 8 semesters of classes. Without credit, the cost of Northeastern is 4 * (yearly net price) - (co-op earnings) + (co-op living costs)
. For each half semester of credit you have incoming, you can take 0.25
off of the 4 years number. Generally, co-op earnings cover living costs, but how much extra varies by major and co-op. Generally, it’s best to assume that the cost of Northeastern is total 4 x COA and then a bit less for high paying majors.
I think you mean 4 * (yearly net price) - (co-op earnings) + (co-op living costs) for a student who completes 8 semesters of school before graduating.
Correct, net price was meant to be implied
Ah, just caught my flipped signs, thanks! Updating now.
Tuition has never been charged while on coop. If the coop job is in the Boston area a student can choose to live on campus and would pay room and board of course.
I called the Financial Aid office. They confirmed the Dean’s Scholarship is not affected by living off campus or at home. That only applies to need-based aid whereas Dean’s is merit-based. You do have to maintain a certain GPA for the Dean’s Scholarship.
Thank you for sharing! That is good to hear!
Does anyone have an experience with nursing? My D21 got accepted to NUin program and I’m trying to figure out the pros and cons. Thank you!
Compared to what other schools?
Simmons, University of Portland, TCU - I don’t think she will get into any CA state schools.
Simmons is on shaky financial ground. Not familiar with the other two. What is the cost difference?
Anyone have experience or thoughts about value of investment for a Communications major @ NEU?
It is about 20K a year. NU merit scholarship is $20K short of all the other schools.
it’s always case by case with what the cost is for you after FA/scholarships and what the comparison options are. I’d recommend making a thread in College Search and Selection detailing all your options in terms of net price and total loans.
Wow congrats! What is his major? My son was admitted for computer engineering.
Oops. Sorry just saw this
Its totally worth it. Great Professor’s. No. 1 Coop program in USA (Undergraduates usually do 2-4 paid coops so lots of your cost will be reduced). Hundred’s of student organizations and clubs. If you are research oriented and interested in pursuing research there are many research groups who are working on cutting edge research like in Electrical and Computer Engineering Department we have (Spiral research group). Overall you will get an amazing experience and you will grow tremendously personally as well as professionally. Most of the people I met at Northeastern were cool, competent and awesome.
@Troy991 and for others who have admitted students: there is a group on Facebook called “Northeastern University Parents Group”.
Very helpful parents with tons of experience that can answer your questions regarding programs, housing, co-ops, the pros and cons to all of it.
One of the FB group admins has a nursing student that can answer your specific questions. There a multiple hospitals in the area of course where nursing students do their co-ops, however they also co-op in university research labs and there’s a local (and very robust) EMT program that many do (they get certified as an EMT as part of the program).
Thank you, I will.
