Is NYU's computer science program good?

Is NYU’s computer science program good? If you were to graduate from the program, could you potentially work for leading companies like Google, IBM etc. Also, what’s the distinction between the CAS and Tandon computer science programs? Your input and experience would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I’m not an NYU expert, so I won’t be able to help with CAS vs Tandon, but I can generally speak to the CS industry and NYU CS.

Yeah. Not amazing, not incredibly known for the subject, but it’s pretty solid overall.

Absolutely, though this is true of just about any school. Any of these will hire someone with enough good experience, regardless of school. The bigger question is how much on campus or location specific recruiting the big companies do at each school, which will more or less be proportional to your opportunities at these companies. That’s a good question to ask their career center. NYU is known for having great career services, but in my experience I don’t know it in particular as a feeder to the big tech companies, who are most often found at the Top 25 CS programs. Of course, they are elsewhere too, which is why you should check with the school.

I think a lot of it depends on your career objectives. NYU’s big draw is its NYC location for proximity to financial service companies and the arts. The downside is that tuition and living costs are high, so it may not be the best value for CS given that it is not a top CS program.

Whether you get hired by Google, IBM, will depend as much or more on your demonstrable skills than which college you got your CS degree.
