Are they only accepting people with ACTs over 33 ?
No, absolutely not. I go to a school in a suburb of Columbus and that’s definitely not the case. Actually, according to my Naviance account, there has been 1800+ applications recorded since we opened it. Of those, the average ACT score for accepted applicants to main campus was a 30. There’s a HUGE consistency. There is a significant cutoff point shown on the data chart. In fact there’s even a decent amount applicants getting in with ACT scores around a 26/27 (although it’s not that common). In essence, OSU is cracking down on admissions, but no, they’re not only accepting “Ivy worthy students.”
@mikescarn nope 29 for me and accepted with a nice scholarship
By an analysis based on student standardized-testing profile, OSU tied for 96th nationally and placed fourth in Ohio:

In the State of Ohio, Ohio State has the highest test scores of any public university, only trailing private colleges Case Western (#47), Oberlin (#56), Kenyon (#74). Pretty good company. Keep in mind that most of the colleges ahead of Ohio state on that national university list are private colleges. The mid 50 percent range of scores on the ACT for Ohio state’s incoming class is between 28 and 32. So 25% scored below 28 and 25% scored above 32. In answer to the OP, clearly Ohio State accepts a range of scores of applicants, but overall the academic strength of the incoming classes over past 10 years has been increasing each year with “the Best and the Brightest ever”.
Hell no. All these people have ACT scores of 25
Give it 5-10 years. @mikescarn It’s becoming extremely competitive.
When should I hear back then? I’ve just applied RD but will I only hear back in March or April?
@GigixMeow Um, no. That’s not true at all. Don’t downplay OSU like it’s “average,” because it’s ranked pretty high on the US rankings and they have great academics. You may be talking about deferred students who go to Newark or Mansfield. That’s basically where they send the students they want, but aren’t really good enough yet for main campus. The 25th percentile is a 28, so your statement is WAY off.
I’m not downplaying the school. I’m not stupid, but I’m looking at the stats of the people in the first waves and a lot of them had 25 - 28 ACT scores. This last wave a lot of the stats are much higher. I was accepted in this round.
@GigixMeow - remember that you’re looking on a forum that represents a small number of applicants, and there is self-reporting going on. Also remember that ACT score is one of about 10 things admissions looks at equally during their admissions approach, so those “lower” scores you see some report are not indicative of anything by themselves. I believe in the class of 2021 thread, there was someone with a 34 or 35 who got rejected and complained of the same thing, all while arguing that OSU didn’t use a holistic approach to admissions.
