Is Oxford Emory worth the high tuition rate?

My financial aid would be very little, so I will end up paying $30,000 if I go.
Otherwise I can go to UF for $8,000 (per year).
I want to study either law or business.
Is it worth it?
Oxford Emory doesn't seem that good.

Oxford is good, but Emory is great. If you’re interested in business, it’s hard to beat Goizueta. A BBA is also a great pre-law degree (although you could also do any other number of majors).

it would help if you posted your interests or career goals… because, for me, Oxford wouldn’t be worth it, but it might be for you.

kitkatkatie the OP just did. To the OP I think it is worth it: Emory has a good business program and mind you Oxford students continue on to the Atlanta campus after their first two years and many outperform the students who have been on that campus both freshman and sophomore year. A lot of Oxford students attend the business school so if you are truly interested in business I am sure Emory/Oxford would be better than UF. Hope I was of some help.

… oh wow…

In that case,

Oxford is just a feeder into Emory. If you think Emory is worth the price, then oxford is. Emory is better for business and pre law than UF. fo sho. If you get good grades and a good LSAT (or GMAT) at Emory, then it’s not that hard to get into an ivy caliber law or business school. That’s a lot more rare at UF, simply because it’s a state school

The business program at Emory is very good. If the business program is worth it to you, then go to oxford. Just remember that you’ll be at oxford for 2 years, and then at emory for the last two years.

Does emory seem “that good?”

good answer, u r making me think!
first of all: is emory good enough to pay for?
second: oxford emory

i have little less than a month to decide…
or get off the waitlists…

I’m on the waitlist to Emory and am about to put in my Oxford deposit. I know a ton of people who went the Oxford-Emory route and have outperformed their peers at Emory. You get a lot of one-one-one and leadership opportunities at Oxford…not to mention an Emory degree.

how would an oxford student outperform an emory student.
Oxford is MUCH easier to get into.
thats all i know.
what do they do?

I suspect this is more of an “urban legend” as I have yet to see a link with data supporting this claim. However, it is often claimed by Oxford graduates.

^^^ It does seem like an urban legend emorydeac, if you think about it. It makes no sense, when kids say “I know Oxford students who were able to outperform their Emory College classmates.”

Look, the university lets Oxford admit lower students. Maybe you wanna think about WHY they would go as far as saying Oxford isn’t a backdoor. The Oxford college better do a damn good job to train their students to either outperform or do some amazing thing when they get to Emory College. Or else it’s just a waste admitting low score students who’ll only hurt the Emory reputation.

I don’t believe for a minute Oxford students outperform Emory students, and I will need to see concrete evidence before I change my mind. I’ve always felt it was more of an economic decision, but I have no proof of this either.

^ Beretta they do. You really think that they would still have Oxford if it wasn’t doing the university any good? common sense people common sense

While the best oxford kids can measure up to the best emory kids, for the most part I doubt it.

I suspect most of the oxford kids who outperform emory kids were accepted into both and chose oxford becuase of smaller classes etc.
Also some oxford kids were denied from emory… And this could lead them into putting in a better work ethci and therefor outperforming emory kids.

Finally high school success(which oxford kids don’t have as much of as emory kids) isn’t necesarily always a good predictor of college success.

These 3 reasons probably account for oxford kids outperforming emory kids. Howeever I doubt many of them do.

Btw oxford is said to have harder classes than emory. So while I believe it’s a backdoor and the quality of students is lower, it still does an excellent job preparing them.

My 2/100 of a dollar

I do think in some way that Oxford is a backdoor but the hard classes make me think otherwise…whatever

Having some trouble with reading comprehension?

People go to oxford so they can get into emory. It’s easier to get into oxford than to get into emory. Hence it’s a backdoor.

The professors at oxford give a great education and the classes are hard. Therefore oxford students are prepared for emory. It’s still a backdoor.

^Yeah of course I am since I go to Oxford…

By the way, thanks for insulting my intelligence.

SAT scores if that is the issue do not bare any weight or not much weight when a student is in college: there are students that I know from both Emory and Oxford with above average SAT scores (2200 and above) who have a lower GPA than I do . It’s all about your work ethic. so yeah Oxford is the backdoor to Emory in the sense that students get in with lower stats and whatnot but those stats will not matter four years from now if you work hard or if you don’t.
I don’t know why the discussion went in this direction but whatever…

I love all the misspellings in Aluminum boat’s post…while criticizing the quality of Oxford students. Amusing.

I don’t think so, but if you look at the stats you’ll see exactly how many students are paying full freight. I guess their parents think it 's worth it. Why do you care if others think it’s worth it or not? I think a lot of places aren’t worth it and there are places I think are worth it, but can’t pay it.
