Noticed that UTSA CAP is already full? Does PACE have available slots still? Does anyone know?
It depends on whether you/your student was offered PACE. If so, they probably havent filled up as I would assume many students are weighing the offer with those from other schools; however, on mystatus it does state that after all slots are filled the offer disappears, so they most likely accepted more students that the program wants. If the student only got CAP, then they cannot join or accept PACE, but are free to appeal if there were any application mistakes/grade improvements that may help the committee reconsider their decision. 
It’s not for my own kids. It’s for a friend’s kid but they think that they have until June 1 to enroll and are waiting for other offers for him I think. But if slots fill up, that might not be an option.
Yes, he was offered PACE but really wants CS major not PACE.
Is PACE or CAP a realistic path for admission to CS? Has anyone done that?
IDK- my friend is wondering the same for her S. He would have to do an internal transfer and I heard UT is trying to discourage that.
Oh, I do know that CAP worked for one CS kid who was a friend of my S. He spent a year at UT Tyler then transferred to CS at UT Austin. But he was like some computer whiz. Later got a paid internship in San Francisco. Sweet.
My son did PACE in the 2014-2015 school year and was admitted to CS for the fall of 2015. So it is possible … get great grades in your courses and do a good essay on the application near the end of your PACE year.
^ Are you saying that there is an internal transfer essay when you apply to CS from PACE? Can you give us stats/ info on what CS was looking for to transfer in? Much appreciated if you could share.

I believe my S had about 3.8 on his ACC courses; and it is about 1/4 the cost of taking them at UT. But you can still live on campus just like you were a UT student. In the spring semester of your PACE year, you fill out an transfer application for UT and select a major. You are automatically enrolled and select a major in Liberal Arts if you have above 3.2. For the other colleges such as CS in CNS, you have to write an essay. So he applied to CS with the second choice of Economics in Liberal Arts; but he made it into CS.
It will take him an additional semester to graduate since you cannot get all of the required CS courses in the 3 years after your PACE year; but he will have the benefit of being able to double major in something besides CS since there is time to complete requirements of the second major.
We also had lots of uncertainty about whether PACE was the right thing to do instead of going to another school, but my S dream was to go to UT and the PACE program worked out really well for him. The counselors at PACE and ACC are most helpful in helping you to succeed, and then it is up to you to get the grades.
