@DadRangerfan - FWIW, one of my sons would have gone the other way. He was accepted in-state at PSU and is now attending another school, his first choice, with a scholarship. However, his second choice would have been UB with money from both the University and from Engineering. He was all set to attend UB because the other scholarship opportunity wasn’t final until the last minute. We visited both UB and PSU, and I’m familiar with both of them professionally. If there is a huge net price difference, then UB is clearly the best choice.

Also bear in mind, at PSU your son would have to become Penguinfan or (heaven forbid) Flyerfan.

^^^ Let’s Go Caps. FWIW a ton of PSU alums in Northern Virginia.

Penn State has an incredible networking system that helps students find opportunities for internships and jobs.

Guess this is an old post, but I’m interested in attending PSU UPark this fall, and they have one of the most notable communications school in america, the internships are unparalleled by most other schools I’m looking at. However, the price tag for us OOS students is daunting, especially when my parents have three other kids at home, one of which is in college, the other 2 gearing themselves up for school. My EFC on the FAFSA wasn’t incredibly high, lower than 10k we’ll say, but I’m still really nervous the price tag is going to come back 25+ which is when my parents are going to draw the line I think. Is it worth going here for the networking and amazing reputation, especially for my field of interest? A lot of my family is alumni so they are rather biased which doesn’t totally help, so any outside opinion is immensely appreciated! Thanks :)

Abby I have a 7k EFC and if I didn’t have a outside benefit paying almost all of my OOS tuition, I would not even be close to considering PSU. I love it and can’t wait to be there next fall, but IMO no school is worth more than like $40,000 in loans… Especially with PSU’s financial aid being notoriously light.
