IS potomac school a good school~?

It is outstanding. One of the best academic schools in the D.C. area.

That’s disputable.

I risk posting ancient knowledge, because I am 25 years out of the DC secondary school market. That said, the schools that were renowned then are the same that are renowned now–for a price, DC affords some tremendous academic opportunities to its residents. Potomac is one of many fine schools in the DC area. It depends on what type of school you are looking for. You don’t need to travel far for a fantastic education. In my day, Potomac was better known as a primary day school. I know that it now hosts grades K-12, and with great success. At the same time, there are so many great private day schools in the DC area; many are among the nation’s finest.

I personally like the Maret School, Sidwell, WIS and Georgetown Prep.

The Cathedral schools – National Cathedral School (NCS) for girls and St Albans for boys are generally considered to be two of the top schools in DC. Georgetown Day School, which is considered “progressive” is also excellent academically. Like the HADES acronym which is not fully inclusive, DC has the “Big 3.” These are Cathedral Schools, Sidwell and Georgetown Day. Maret, Potomac are left out. Washington International (which awards an IB) is usually not thought of in the same place, but has it attributes too.

This message board seems a little gung ho on Georgetown Prep (maybe because it has boarders) which is a prestigious Catholic all boys school with amazing athletic facilities (and many supporters who argue it is academically similar to say St Albans). I personally do not believe it is on the same as the Big 3 plus perhaps Maret and Potomac. There are other Catholic area schools which compete with Gtown Prep (Gonzaga, St Anselms, St Johns, DeMatha).

Gonzaga, St Johns and Dematha are athletic powerhouses. As for maret, they send 17% of their kids to the Ivies, that’s pretty impressive !

Gonzaga, St Johns, and DeMatha are in fact, athletic powerhouses. They are not however, at the same academic level of Georgetown Prep.

The best schools in the country are in the northeast. If you want to go to a good prep school you should look into Taft, Deerfield, Andover, Exeter, and some others.

My wife and I are very pleased with the education our son is receiving at the Saint James School.

The best public schools are in New York State. Our 2 daughters attended the Fayetteville-Manlius HS ouside of Syrarce, adn received an education that rivals private schools. Oldest attended Colgate and is now at U of Cincinnati medical school. Youngest daughter attended Dartmouth and will attend U of Pittsburgh Medical School. She was also on the National Champion Science Olympiad team.

I go to Potomac now, and academically it is exactly the same as GDS, I got into both and chose Pmac ofver GDS, because of location and because thier academics are identicall.
