Normally I would avoid prep classes, yet Princeton Review guarantees a 1400+ or your money back. Assuming you attend all classes and do all their homework. My SAT score is currently 1180.
Has anyone done it before and tell me what it’s like.
Also there is a free 40 hour SAT class taught by Cal students. I don’t know what it is like and there is no score guarantee, but it’s free. Should I do that instead.
Try Khan Academy, It is also free.
I’ve done a bit of it, yet there are no strategies on Khan Academy.
It could be worth it, but a lot of it depends on you. At my kid’s HS, it was pretty much a rite of passage for everyone to take an SAT prep class. Many people did increase their score 200 points, while others had as low as a 0 point increase. I would say you’d need to dedicate 100 hours of prep, homework and test practice. I base the 100 hours on a bootcamp that many of my kid’s friends took, which consisted of 2 weeks during the Christmas holidays, 8 hours each day, and then 10 additional Saturdays of test practice and review, 4 hours each. That bootcamp worked very well for quite a few of the students from what I understand. (This is hearsay from the guy that runs the camp, luckily my kid never had to take his bootcamp which was close to $3K)
Does Princeton Review guarantee you a 1400? Is that new? If I recall, our local PR class guaranteed a 180 point increase, not a minimum, score. You had to come in with a baseline score over a certain amount, though, but that score could be on a PSAT.
Kind of, you get a full refund or you can take the course again if you don’t get a 1400+. As long as if you do all the work and attend all the classes. Your eligible for it if your SAT, PSAT, or Princeton diagnostic is an 1160 meaning up to a 240+ improvement.
Attending all the classes and doing all the homework (and there may be a lot of it) is a BIG catch. If you fail to do one of these things, you will be on the hook for the cost of the course! I imagine this is the main way they make their money.
