Those are massive and largely inaccurate generalizations. I know dorky people who go to Yale, academic people who to Harvard, and pretentious people who go to Princeton.
That said, I'd like to make a more broad generalization of my own. In my experience, "Type-A" highly competent people (people who just excel at things, life, et cetera) go to Princeton. People who love learning for the sake of learning, who read mountains of books and love intellectual conversation go to Yale. The other highly intelligent kids go to Harvard.
The Princetonians I know are anything but dorky. The whole eating club system kind of precludes that. Quite on the contrary, Princeton students know how to balance work and play, even if they don't discuss Aristotle much out of class.
Yalies I know tend to be highly emotional intellectuals who are "in touch" with their classes and themselves. Many are musicians.
Harvard kids I know are pretentious snobs.

Haha, I wasn't being totally serious, guys. Yes, the people I know who went to HYP exhibit those characteristics, BUT I am fully aware of the diversity within each school.

By the way, my infinite affection for Yale, consequent enmity towards Harvard, and ridiculously close proximity to Princeton may have skewed my generalizations. ;)

Does anyone know how I could find out whether or not Wake Forest University accepts the ACTs ... Im trying to put together some fall back schools and I was wondering whether they accepted ACTs or just SATs

Have you considered asking in the Wake forum, or maybe looking at their website?

On cc, the creative but neurotic go to Yale, the eat-your-dead competitive and extremely articulate go to Harvard, and the social but focused go to Princeton. They are all equally brilliant.

what is the world coming to?

"the social, pretentious ones go to Harvard, the dorky academic ones go to Princeton, and the social, intellectual ones go to Yale,"

That's funny I was told the following and I am not sure what is true anymore: Socially pretentious and academically extraordinary go to the elitist (Prince) Princeton. Harvard is dorky ethnic geeky mixed with athletic rugby types. Yale is gay pride, artsy, creative most likely to sing in a choir, and study economics. Maybe that sounds too wierd.

I like that better. Seems more accurate haha

See I noticed this pattern about types of students who go to different Ivy League schools, correct me if I'm wrong...

Good students from New Jersey and Pennsylvania often go to Princeton. Good students from Massachusetts often go to Harvard. Good students from other states in New England often go to Yale.

Amazing pattern, huh?

EXCEPT its impossible to get into Princeton from Jersey that is well known

EXCEPT local Princeton high schools get in dozens of students each year, far more than any other school system.

You'd be surprised

yeah and the rest of the state gets screwed while they make peace with the locals- get it! duhhhhhh

Typical snide comment from Alumother. Seems incapable of complementing Princeton except by slamming Yale and Princeton.

Byerly,

Review my posts and you will find that to be factually incorrect. Anyone who doubts, seach for all my posts.

The comment above was made in the spirit of generalization. I admit, it was a little nastier than I usually am comfortable being but it was one of those patterns that has really struck me when I read the posts on the other boards. Of course, I rarely post on other boards....In fact when you read the other posts above you will realize that a large group of people here concur that these are the prevailing generationalizations. Or course, this being the real world and statistics play their role, it's a bell curve.

Happy Holidays to you too Byerly:).

Alu

From my school all of the smart and social kids went to Princeton, the weird dorky kids with really great connections went to Harvard, and the dorky driving daddy's BMW kids went to Yale. GO PRINCETON! I don't know why I'm in a good princeton mood maybe tomorow I'll be slamming you guys on another forum.

I haven't really noticed the cc patterns that Alumother or others on this thread have suggested. The one cc pattern I did notice last year was that, despite much decision anxiety, long discussion threads debating pros and cons, and some heavy lobbying by adherents of each school, the vast majority of cc posters who actually got into both Harvard and another top school (Princeton, Yale, Stanford, etc.) chose Harvard. But then, I guess that's the same pattern one sees in real life. ;)

Happy Holidays to all.

Yeh, that is why I applied Early Decision. I was deferred though, but I think I might go if I get in now. Then again I'm hoping to get into Cornell. That is my second-choice, but almost first, lol.

I really think one ivy leage school is the same as the other, unless an alumnus from a different one is trying to hire you. Harvard is my top Ivy school just so I can watch a game in Fenway Park, but if i go to princeton, I'll watch a game at Yankee Stadium before they blow it up

You guys need to get out of your minds that PHS sends more kids to Princeton because of their qualifications.

The reason why many of them LIVE in Princeton in the first place is because their parents either went to school there or work there. I live right next to Princeton and I know people who've gotten in because their parents - or they themselves - work there. People from PHS do NOT just get in based on their qualifications, but their connections!

With that said, it actually is more possible than you think to get into Princeton from NJ. This year and last year we're sending more kids to Princeton than Harvard or Yale - mostly without connections. Our top Ivies, in order by student matriculation in the past three years, are Cornell (29), Penn (21), Princeton (15), Dartmouth (10), Yale (9), Harvard (7), Columbia (7), Brown (5).
