As a Sophomore last year, I took the practice PSAT and scored a respectable 216 (640 M, 720 CR, 800 W). I was satisfied with the score and, unfortunately, got complacent. I had barely studied prior to the test, but felt confident because it was after a year of school and my brain was still doing the "school processing", if you will.

I took a practice PSAT again today, and scored a 209 (680 M, 69 CR, 72 W), which is barely below the qualifying score for National Merit Scholar. Granted, I am only two weeks into school, and took the test out of the blue. I also couldn't help but be pleasantly surprised at the score increase in the math section (I'm taking a very challenging math class as a Junior... for those of you familiar with it, it's IB Math HL).

Despite the math score increase, I can't help but to be wary. An 8 point drop on the PSAT is nothing to dismiss, especially when it means NMS v. No NMS.

From your experience, is this normal? Will the scores realign/improve with time? Will my rigorous math course help my SAT? I take it at the end of October... finally, what are some methods to really improve my CR?
