Hey there.

I was just wondering this, as I've heard a lot of people say it is and a lot of people say it isn't. Some people even say that some of these ivy leagues are against race diversity.
Say, for example; I'm samoan and thinking of applying to an ivy league college. Would my chances be higher, lower or the same as everyone else's chances of getting in ?

Thanks

I don’t think anybody, including Harvard, would deny that race is considered in admissions at all. I don’t know how your specific race would affect you.

I don’t think race should be a deciding factor on admissions to college, however, some ivy league colleges have a percentage of races to get into their colleges. One college for example is Harvard they have a percentage of racial diversity and a percentage of how many students from that ethnic background can be accepted, but I also believe that it all comes down to your academic history, ACT, and SAT, things of that nature. Since your’re applying to an Ivy League I’m pretty sure you meet the criteria and I don’t see how the college you’re applying to won’t accept you.

Many of the facts in Antavia’s post aren’t quite facts. There was a time when many leading colleges, including but not limited to Harvard, had quotas, but that hasn’t been the case for over a generation.

It is still the case that many leading colleges will give a boost in admissions to members of underrepresented minority groups. You can like that or dislike it, but it’s the prerogative of private colleges like Harvard to operate this way.

As for your original question, nikefighter, I don’t think you’re going to learn anything helpful here. You yourself said, “I’ve heard a lot of people say [race is an important factor in admissions] and a lot of people say it isn’t.” And you have come onto the Internet to ask a lot of people. If a lot of people reply to this thread, I’d expect a lot of them to say race is an important factor, and a lot of them to say it isn’t.

Can’t recall if the Common Ap distinguishes between Asian and Pacific Islander. If it does -and there aren’t many Pacific Islander’s in the ap pool, it could conceivably work in your favor.
